Hi, I´ve bought an KeyStudio 49e in the beginning of August (2008) but until now I couldn´t use it, because Session software always crashes when I try to run it. M-Audio Micro Properties always shows "not connected", even when I turn on KeyStudio (but USB device is detected).
I have to say that I am very disappointed and frustrated with this software/device until now, but I hope it will work someday :(
I´m trying to run Session in a PC with Windows XP SP3, and withAsus A8N-SLI SE motherboard, Nvidia GeForce NX6200TC video card and Realtek AC´97 Audio.
I installed the following versions of sofware:
Session_Web_1.6.3v4, MAMicro_V32_5.10.00.5097v3 and MA_CMIDI_WDM_4.2.03v4.
Any idea to fix this problem?
What exactly happens when you try and launch Session? Do you get any error messages?

When I try to run Session with the keyboard off, there´s no message. Just that window with a big X in red and an OK button.
When I turn on the keyboard and try to run it again, Session tries to open a window, but it fails and appears a message like "Session.exe found a problem and need to be closed." in a window with an option to send a report to Microsoft and an option to debug the software.
Are you running Session on a non English version of the operating system?

Yes, my Windows XP is a brazilian portuguese version.

Hi Sergio.
I have Win Vista Brazilian and, yes, Session doesn´t work.
Latest version (1.6.3v4) doesn´t work too.
Unfortunatelly... we are alone. :(

Is the problem just the Windows language support?
If that´s the point I can install an english version of Windows XP.
But I wonna be sure before doing that...
It´s very strange, isn´t it? All M-Audio software have this "non-english language support problem"?
At this point I would recommend installing an English version of the OS if you have it available. This is a known issue, but I don't have an ETA for when it will be fixed.

I have some news about this post.
I´ve installed an English version Windows XP in my PC and the first thing I did before that was to install Session and KeyStudio drivers.
But the result is the same: M-Audio Micro didn´t detect the device and Session crashed.
So, now I am sure that the problem is not the Windows language support and is nothing related to some other driver or sofware (because there was nothing installed before).
Could be some kind of hardware compatibility problem?
PS: Some additional information: my HD is SATA2. My keyboard is a KeyStudio 49, not a 49i (as I wrote before).
Are you getting an error that no M-Audio hardware is found? Does the Micro Control panel recognize the device as "connected" (see the end of this FAQ (http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=9e7c113dc20b1f65cc2a8d2125c88294))?
What version of Session did you install? Which Service Pack for XP do you have?

I am using (as I mentioned in the first post):
Session_Web_1.6.3v4, MAMicro_V32_5.10.00.5097v3 and MA_CMIDI_WDM_4.2.03v4.
My English Windows XP is Professional SP2.
My Portuguese Windows XP is Professional SP3.
Session crashes in both of them.
No, Micro does not connect :(
The status is always "not connected"
But the USB device is detected by Windows.
I don´t know if i helps but another point about my hardware is that my video card interface is PCI express (nVidia GeForce NX6200).
It sounds like Windows is not loading the M-Audio driver for the Micro. If you go to the Device Manager, under Sound, video & game controllers, the Micro may appear as "USB Audio Device". Can you right-click, choose update drivers, if prompted to connect to Windows update choose no, you want to install from a list or specific location, on the next page choose don't search I'll choose the driver, and on the following page you should be able select the M-Audio driver. If this loads successfully, the Micro control panel should display connected and Session should launch.

Ok, I tried to do what you said following the steps:
Select "USB Audio Device" > Update Driver > No, no this time > Install from a list or specific location > Don´t search I will choose the drive to install > Have disk... > C:/Program Files/M-Audio/M-Audio Micro/MAudioMicro.inf > Open > OK
But I received the message:
"The specified location does not contain information about your hardware."
After that, I tried to install MA_CMIDI_WDM_4.2.03v4.exe and, in Device Manager window, "USB Audio Device" disappeared and, instead,
"Key Studio USB Driver" and "Key Studio USB Midi Driver" appeared.
But Micro showed "not connected" status.
This is very strange:
Micro device driver doesn´t work.
KeyStudio midi device driver works but Micro does not work with it
Both the keyboard & Micro will appear as "USB Audio Device" with no drivers installed. It sounds like you tried updating the driver for the keyboard and that's why you got the error. Now that the keyboard is recognized as M-Audio, does USB Audio Device still appear? Can you try updating its driver?

I think I didn´t understand what you said or you didn´t understand what I said.
Well, the situation is:
First, I uninstalled MAMicro_V32_5.10.00.5097v3 and MA_CMIDI_WDM_4.2.03v4.exe.
After that, I installed just MAMicro_V32_5.10.00.5097v3 and I saw "USB Audio Device" with Microsoft default driver. If I try to force use of Micro driver I receive "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware."
After that, I installed MA_CMIDI_WDM_4.2.03v4.exe. So, "USB Audio Device" disappeared and "Key Studio USB Driver" and "Key Studio USB Midi Driver" appeared.
If I try to force "Key Studio USB Driver" to use Micro driver, I receive "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware." again.
In any situation, Micro status is always disconnected.
If the KeyStudio is identified twice as KeyStudio in the device manager, it's installed properly, don't change that or update its driver.
When you connect the Micro, the device manager will either identify it as the Micro, or as USB Audio Device. If it's identified as USB Audio Device, the control panel will display not connected. In this case, you need to update the driver for USB Audio Device and select the Micro driver. If you double click USB Audio Device, on the General Tab, you should be able to determine if it's the Uno or not.
When you connect the Micro, does anything new appear under Sound, video and game controllers? Do you get any indication that new hardware is connected when attaching the Micro? If not, try different USB ports.

Trying another USB port, now my PC detects M-Audio Micro and I have connected status!
But Session still crashes :(
The crash message is: "Session has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
The error signature is: "App Name: session.exe, App Ver: 1.6.3.17780, Off Set: 001acfab, Mod Name: session.exe"

I´ve tried to install Session_Web_1.6.3v5, but the result is the same: crash
We had seen this error occur with the MA CMIDI driver on earlier versions of Session, but it was supposed to have been fixed. Try uninstalling the MIDI driver and disconnecting the KeyStudio keyboard, then try and launch Session and see if you get the same error. If Session launches successfully, try using the keyboard class compliant (as USB Audio Device).

It didn´t work too.
Session still crashes in any situation (driver installed, driver uninstalled, keyboard on, keyboard off, micro plugged, micro unplugged, Windows XP SP2, Windows XP SP3, english windows, portuguese windows, etc.).
Are you using a non-English font/language pack on the English OS?
sergio.sakai

No, I have installed the English Windows XP just to run Session.
So, I haven´t modified anything in the original installation (no device drivers, no language support packages, no service packs, no updates, no service packs, except SP2, that comes with Windows, and no other applications).
Can you go to Start>Run and type "dxdiag", click Save all information (it will save as a text file) and attach that to a response. I'd like to forward that information on to see if I can get additional insight on why this is happening.

JA, unfortunately, I´ve uninstalled Windows XP English SP2.
But now I´ve installed Windows XP English with no service pack.
So, the good new is: now Session is running with no crashes! :)
The bad new is: I still can´t use the keyboard to produce music. :(
I´ve followed the manual instructions but when I push the keys no sound is produced. But I can open the demo projects and when I do this the pre-programmed music is reproduced normally.
The strange facts are:
Even with no service packs installed, the only Session installation program that worked was Session_Web_1.6.3v5. The older versions showed a message saying that my Windows version was not supported.
The version of Micro that worked was MAMicro_V32_5.10.00.5097_s. The newer version showed that "Windows version not supported" message.
I couldn´t open Micro Control Panel. When I tried to do that, I heard a beep sound and nothing happened.
So, Session now works (using Windows XP with no service packs) but I am unable to use that with my keyboard.
Should I open a new thread?
I am going to buy a new HD and then I will install Windows XP English SP2 again and post the dxdiag result.
But now I am posting the result of dxdiag with Windows XP "no SP".

Sorry to say but the software are noo good att all in the latest versions.
Runnning reinstalled from scratch XP professional SP3 English, session 1.6.3v5, drivers 4.2.03v4 and actually havent got the thing working at all ( bought Keysudio 25 yesterday. There are an access error ( debugged in Visualstudio 2008 ) in the exe file.
Probably because the accessrights are different in sp3 than in plain XP.
The non telling msg box also have been visible but not all the time.
