Does anyone know if running Windows XP through VMware on a Windows 7 machine would work for recording music?

I'm interested in doing this to get around the issues I've been having while using the Windows 7 drivers. Would the audio technically still be routing through the Windows 7 drivers and run into all the same problems (pops/clicks/noise)?

Hi, interesting you posted, because I also have problems with the W7 drivers and want to install the drivers ive used earlier in XP that was working prefect. So I tried doing the installation. The installation was completed without errors, but when double clicking the delta-interface (on the systembar) an error appear and says that "No Delta Card Found" or something like that. So I wasnt able to use it. Please let me know about your progress.

Hi there,

Vmware emulates a set of generic hardware for the guest OS. Therefore the host machine's hardware is not visible to the guest OS and it won't install (and need) the drivers, e.g. for any other video other sound card than the emulated generic model. The only thing that Vmware doesn't fake is the CPU.

BUT: USB-devices connected to the host are visible to virtual machines and they need their own drivers, regardless if drivers for the device are installed on the host or not. It's worth a try, although there may be problems with timing of real time apps in a VM. You could end up with clicks and dropouts.

Have a nice one!

I never got around to testing the VMware thing out, but I am triple booting W7, XP and Ubuntu now. That works, just takes time to setup.. heheh
