If you have a Session bundle such as the Session Music Producer (with Producer USB), Session with Fast Track Bundle, or Session with Micro bundle, you would be able to use the Axiom (keys and drum pads) with Session.

can you just buy the session software by itself and use the axiom?
and can i use the axiom if i buy the 49 key midi controller w/ session bundle?

Session (with the Micro USB) interface (http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Session.html) generally sells for $50 US and is the least expensive version of Session available. The Session KeyStudio (49 key) bundle also comes with the Micro USB interface - - since you already have an Axiom, the regular "Session software" pack with just the Micro USB would seem like a more efficient choice.

I'm having the same problem. I bought the KeyStation 49 so my son who's 12 could get his own keyboard. I already own the Axiom 49, and assumed that it would also work with the software. But I'm very disappointed to see that it's not recognizing the Axiom 49 as valid software. Why not? Why lock down the bundled software to ONLY work with the KeyStation 49 lowend keyboard? Is there some way to permit Session to see my Axiom without having to go pay another $50 for the same software I already have???

Well, I plugged in the KeyStation and NOW it let me see my Axiom and actually use it. If the keyboard is turned off when I start up, it won't let me use the Axiom. Is this just to prevent a Session buyer from giving it away to all his Axiom-owning friends???? Maybe someone could think of a way to permit M-Audio fans who actually bought the KeyStation the "right" to use other MAudio equipment. Look, I'm trying to get my kid into the keyboard addiction!

Either that, or make it darn clear on the packaging that :this bundled software won't work with just any old M-Audio keyboard you might actually HAVE. If you want that, don't buy this one with the keyboard." I'd posit that MAudio would probably make more money if they just bundled the same software, because half of the people might not even know or have on hand the micro version so they'd buy the controller too just to get the software.

Still, begrudgingly, an M-Audio fan with one less USB port.

I'm having total failure getting session to work with my M-Audio oxygen - am I seriously to believe that M-audio won't allow session to work with their own products, which someone has previously purchased? Is this how you reward customer loyalty? Please prove me wrong.

Andrew, I personally have used the gauntlet of Oxygen series keyboards with Session successfully so perhaps something is going wrong with the setup. Could you provide a little more info on your system specs? (ie -Vista XP (Home, Pro, Media Center and service pack?) Does your keyboard show up in the device manager properly or does it say USB Audio Device? Are you able to select it as an input in session? Also, are you turning on the keyboard before opening Session?

Thanks TechGique: I'm running XP home SP3. The keyboard shows up as USB Audio device, but it works fine with Reason 4.0 and various other pieces of software (which are not running at the same time). I've tried turning it on before and after I've started Session.

I loaded Enigma and it works ok with that as well (I think - at least Enigma recognises it). Enigma's not running when I try to use the keyboard with Session.

To be honest, the main reason I got session was that it was the cheapest way to get an ASIO soundcard, which is frankly pretty darn good.
