no sound at all

i have the session software and i have updated it to 1.6.3. i also use the fast track pro and that has been updated too. i also use windows vista. everything is installed but when i plug in my guitar session does not pick it up. it shows that there is no sound coming out of the guitar. what should i do?

Does your guitar register an input signal on the front of the Fast Track Pro? Are you connected to Input 1 or 2?

a green light goes on when i hit a string and its input 1

When you choose "play and record with your guitar", the track is setup to record from Input 2 (right input). You can either plug your guitar into Input 2, or you can click the Track Properties button (with the wrench icon) and set the Track Input to Left Channel.
