ok heres the problem ive done a format on my pc my specs are

1X Presscott D intel 3.06ghz
Motherboard - intel grantsdale i915gv - 2004
2X 1GB RAM - 533mhz.
120GB HDD
Nvidia geforce 6600GT

ive had sound on before and it wasnt easy to get, i got it on by fluke last time by literally installing a 2003/2005 driver from the website and then installing the disk driver that came with it and the sound came on, although this time there is no 2003 driver.

the soundcard (192) is in the pci slot i have a cheap eurorack UB802 and from the mail L out and Main R out on the back of the soundcard i have 2 jack running to the Line in 3/4..
i have headphones plugged into the headphones jack, i have XP 32bit with sp3 installed.

in the m audio control panel when a song plays etc the level bar goes up and down accordingly but no sound comes out of the mixer, i know for sure this is a driver problem, because this happened before i managed to get it working by fluke, although this time theres no such luck.

ive tried everything even the new driver.. basically all of them and no matter what i do i cant get any sound whatso ever, and if i do then its a tiny clicking sound and then nothing, can someone help me ?

i used to have sound before my format and so i cant understand this..

Cheers

In the Mixer, which channel do the levels appear on? Is the master volume turned up? Have you tried connecting to the monitor outputs? Try connecting your headphones directly to the main and monitor outputs and see if you hear anything.

haah sorry about this im a bit of a novice, im a 17 year old music tech student (learning the trade) and so i dont completely get you, but if you were on about in the control panel then the device was set to 1/2 and so on the software mixer the bars were going up there, i noticed that the master volume on the software mixer on the delta panel was COMPLETELY greyed/whited out.

just installed vista enterprise, it dosent seem to work on there either, the delta panel shows signal but no sound is coming out of the mixer, it isnt a faulty mixer because i took it back to the shop and they tested it on their m audio 2496 so my guess is its hardware related, may i ask if my motherboard intel i915GV is compatible ? would you say to upgrade the motherboard ?

Open the M-Audio control panel. Go to output tab. Make sure 1/2 out is turned up. At the bottom of the 1/2 out strip is a little box with a down arrow. Click it and select: sw rtn. Go to mixer tab and make sure 1/2 in and sw 1/2 rtn are turned up.

In the lower right hand corner of you desktop screen should be a little speaker icon. Opposite click it. Click Playback Devices. Make sure 1&2 are set a default. While you are there check the Recording Devices. Again....make sure 1&2 are set as default.
