View Full Version : Mixed up controllers on Keystudio 49 (Series I)

The volume slider on my Keystudio 49 is completely inert—it won't perform its default function nor accept any other controller assignments. At the same time, the pitch bend wheel seems to be controlling both pitch and volume. The modulation wheel seems to be working fine in every way.

I have tried resetting the whole unit, resetting the controllers, and too many attempted reassignments to list, but the situation remains basically the same. If it helps, I just dug the unit out after a long period of disuse (and on top of that, of course, the model itself is a bit antiquated).

Any ideas?

Which device do you have? The Keystudio 49 (http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/SessionKeyStudio-main.html) is a Series II MIDI Device. Do you have an old Midiman KeyStation 49?

What application are you using the keyboard with?

If you download MIDI Monitor (http://snoize.textdriven.com/MIDIMonitor/) you can see what MIDI messages the pitch wheel and volume slider are sending.

Oops, I'm sorry—it is indeed a Keystudio 49, Series II. I'm using it with Digital Performer 4.6 and SimpleSynth, mostly.

Anyhow, MIDI Monitor reports that the pitch bend wheel is controlling "Channel Volume (coarse)" as well as pitch bend, and the slider isn't registering at all (perhaps it's simply broken).

It sounds like the KeyStudio is malfunctioning. It is possible to reassign the slider and modulation wheel to different functions, but the default settings are restored when the keyboard is powered back on.

When and where did you purchase the KeyStudio?

I believe it was a year or two ago at Best Buy.

The warranty is 1 year from the date of purchase; we can also repair the device out of warranty. For more information, please contact Tech Support (http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.contact).

I have a M-Audio Keystation 49e and both wheels seem to be sending signals that I am not telling them to. On Reason, it shows both wheels constantly vibrating near the bottom. I am outside of my warranty. Is there anyway to just kind of shut off the wheels and not allow them to send any MIDI signals?

Hi guys,

Similar problem, I have an old radium49, I purchased of a second hand, however I test it before buy it and it worked very good. BUT I reset as a factory presets (MIDI/Select key then power on) , then none slider or knob buttons, can be programed. Should I setup something else in my daw? I use FL studio, but I use a SC-55 Roland Canvas (hardware) also, and still the sliders and knobs do not work.
Should I to program MIDI mesagges or something?

Thanks
