I know there are other threads about what seems to be a similar problem, but none I can find seem to mention all of the symptoms I've found. Apologies if this has been covered before.

System is home-built PentiumD. 3GHz+2GB RAM. Drives are 2 Seagate SATA 7200rpm in RAID0 array. Audio card (only one in system) Delta44. No IRQ or other hardware conflicts according to Windows. OS is WinXPProSp3. Normally this setup is rock solid and it doesn't run out of breath easily.

I installed the 5069v3 driver on Saturday and until last night everything worked fine. I mixed a couple of tracks over the weekend seemingly without problems, one containing 12+ 24bit/48000 audio tracks plus Reason via rewire. CPU pushing about 25% on one core, 5-15% on the other, discs at up to about 15% loading.

Tonight I started a new Sonar project, created one audio track for a looped drum sample, then recorded the bass (guitar) part to one audio track, then guitar to another. Total number of tracks being 3 plus master, no plugins. I didn't like the guitar part so I deleted the data and recorded a second take in the same track. The first take was OK, but the second one had massive (digital sounding) distortion that rapidly got worse.

So I did a bit of experimenting, opening existing projects and seeing if they were affected. By and large not - unless I created a fresh audio track when either the noise would start or Sonar would refuse to play at all. Direct monitoring through either software or the card's own mixer was also noisy.

One project with Reason rewired into Sonar was totally unplayable - Sonar showed both the Reason rewire tracks and master as jammed +99.99dB into the red (quite an overload) as were the Delta driver meters. Removing all Reason tracks and shutting down Reason made no difference. Even after shutting down Sonar the card's own meters were still jammed solidly red. No sound was coming out of it though - unless I clicked the mouse on anything when there'd be a very loud (and thankfully very short) burst of noise.

Live7 had similar symptoms.

The only way I could find to record clean audio was to reboot the PC, create an empty fresh project in Sonar or Live, then record one (and only one) audio track. Any attempt to add another track, overdub or delete the recorded audio and do another take resulted in the distortion starting.

Switching from ASIO to WDM drivers made no difference. The DirectX driver didn't fuzz, but audio was overlaid with a kind of flanging sound.

Uninstalling the 5069v3 driver and installing the 5057v3 one seems to have made the problem go away (I hope).

There may be a problem with the firmware chip on the Delta card and the new firmware with the 5069v3 driver isn't loading. Can you test the Delta card with the 5069 driver on a different computer? How long have you owned the Delta 44?
