View Full Version : can't record via spdif with ap 2496 & vista RESOLVED

I just installed a new computer, Vista, new Delta Audiophile 2496 driver,
and am unable to record via the SPDIF input .

Here's all the specs (I hope):
Dell XPS 360i, Intel core 2 duo cpu, E6750 @ 2.66 Ghz
Windows Vista Enterprise
M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496 sound card
Midiman Flying Cow 24 bit da/ad converter
Sonic Foundry SoundForge 6.0

Things look ok, but no sound is coming in. I can record through the
line 1/2 jacks, connecting the tape player directly to the sound card.
SoundForge offers me the S/PDIF (M-Audio Delta etc) as a choice
in the list of input devices. Windows control panel says the device is working.

And yet: no sound! It must be the settings on the driver control panel,
I imagine, but I don't know how to change them to make things work.

Please help! And thank you!!

Heidi

Try selecting "external - spdif" as the sync source on the hardware tab of the Delta control panel.

I tried that. Then in SoundForge (this is 8.0), Preferences, Audio
I selected M-Audio Delta ASIO as the Recording Device. That gave
me the option of SPDIF In L Delta AP/SPDIF In... for the Default
Recording Device.

But then when I try to record, I get this:
"An error occurred while opening an audio device. An unsupported
media type was requested."

Now what?

Before launching Sound Forge, when you selected external S/PDIF as the clock source, did the Delta card lock to the incoming S/PDIF signal? Did the sample rate match the Flying Cow? When you send signal in does it appear on the Monitor Mixer tab?

Is your project in Sound Forge at the same sample rate?

It works!!! I must have bumped the Mode Select button on the Flying Cow when
I moved it. Your message caused me to notice that it was set to S/PDIF - Ext,
instead of S/PDIF 44.1, which is what we want and what everything else is set to.
Set that mode right, and everything works.

Thanks!!
