So several months ago i purchased a keystation 49e so i could attempt to start doing some synth along with pro tools.

I installed all the drivers with it but when it came time to use it in my m-powered pro-tools It seemed to not work.

I would set up a new midi track and it would say i was getting signal from it. I just wouldn't get any sound from it.

Like wise i tried to use xpand! a plug-in associated with pro tools used for synth and it seemed like it was not recognizing it?

any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If you can dumb it down at all that would be greatly appreciated. I'm fairly new to this whole pro-tools jazz.

Thanks,
Tyler

If the MIDI track in Pro Tools is receiving a MIDI signal from the 49e, the keyboard is working properly. Did you setup Xpand on an instrument track?

I know the keyboard is working properly I just can never hear any sound from the track. And when I look at the output options I can't have it routed through my fast track which is what i use for all my out going sounds.

No i didn't set up Xpand on an intrument track. Is that needed for it to work.

I would recommend setting up Xpand on an instrument track. In Pro Tools 6 you used to have to route the output of your MIDI track to your virtual instrument on an Aux track; but in Pro Tools 7 the setup is much simpler. If you only have a MIDI track setup, there is nothing to hear; that MIDI information must be routed to a device (such as Xpand) that can generate the sounds; and on an Instrument track, that routing is done for you. Just make sure you turn up the volume of the instrument track ;)

I have a 49e and trying to use it with m-powered pro tools 7.4 but all i get is an error message saying no m-audio hardware found. All I have plugged in via my laptop at the mo not my big pc, is the usb lead, it sees it ok and i know it works fine in reason 4, so what configuration do i need or any special drivers?

Cheers

You need a supported M-Audio sound card/audio interface to run Pro Tools M-Powered.
