I just started getting machine gun-like clocking sounds through my 2496 using the s/pdif coax connections to my Logitech Z-5500 system. I also have been getting screen of death and crashing when some applications load that use audio vigorously. I also notices that on the status screen of the Logitech Z-5500 controller that digital signal comes and goes. I'm thinking that my card has gone belly up. SInce I have taken it out and just used the internal speaker. NO PROBLEMS!!!!!!
Has anyone else seen this problem?? Trying to figure, fix this card or buy another.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Peace,
Joe

Please update your signature with your system specs as requested in this thread (http://forums.m-audio.com/showthread.php?t=14); this information is necessary in order to troubleshoot your issue. Was this setup working previously? Are you using a 75ohm S/PDIF cable? Have you tested with a different S/PDIF cable?

JA,
Thanks for the response. This system is as stated in the signature G4 dual Proc 1 ghz 1.5 GB Memory. 2MB L3 cache per processor. This card has been working for two years just fine with the same cables, speakers and computer. This problem just started occurring. I even downloaded the latest drivers just in case. No Go. Thanks in advance for any help with this matter.

I edited your post and checked the "show signature" box.

Did you recently install any new software or updates? Do you experience crashing when using the analog outputs? Do you have access to another system to test the card to confirm a possible issue with the card itself?

JA Sorry for taking so long to get back. Only new software would be Apple distributed software relative to 10.4.11. I have recently since last posting upgraded to Leopard and the card is performing the same. The analog connections work for about 10-20 seconds before starting to crackle and blurr and finally all but stop. The in board audio works fine by itself and through the speaker system I use..Z-5500, No problem!!
Haven't been able to try another system but I am not very hopeful.
THANKS

If the same setup was working for 2 years and is suddenly problematic, it could be the card, especially since you also experience problems with the analog outputs too. If you had access to another system to test this would at least confirm that nothing on the computer had changed. If you'd like you can send the device in for repair; you'll need to contact tech support to arrange this.
