no sound on center and subwoofer speakers

Hi folks,I'm using audiophile 192,Cubase Sx-3 and windows XP.I also use a set of 5.1 surround sound speakers(cheapies for use with commercial sound cards.I just moved and before I did all 5 speakers were working fine,now the center and the subwoofer are not working and It's not just when I am using cubase It' also does it when playing cd's ect.I thought that everything was hooked up the same but I must be missing something.Fairly new to this so I may have overlooked something simple.Appreciate any help.Thanks.

Can you please provide more information about your speaker setup? The 192 only has a stereo analog output; are you sending a surround encoded signal through the S/PDIF output? If so, your problem may be with the configuration in Cubase.

Hi JA,well as i said my spks. are just cheap commercial ones.They have a 1/8 cable comming out so I use an adapter to make it 1/4.this is going into the right monitor out.My guitar goes through a preamp and into the left input.I know that I should be running a pair of self powered monitors but that's not in the budget right now.I'm assuming that these speakers can be used tho' as I have had them working before.Thanks JA,Cheers.

The 192 only outputs in stereo (The 1/4" outputs are TRS balanced mono outputs) so I'm not sure how you had it setup or working before. Perhaps you were splitting each mono output to 2 speakers? Do you have the pan's centered for the inputs in the control panel? Can you post a screen shot of the control panel with the level meters lit up while playing so I can see what is going on?

Hi JA,Thanks for your response,the more I look into this the more I feel like an idiot,but I'm big enough to admit when I screwed up so here goes.I'm pretty sure now that it has been working like this all along.You see the reason I noticed that the speakers weren't working was when I played this old recording and noticed that the vocals weren't there.Then I stuck my ears up to the center speaker and noticed it wasn't working.I'm sorry if I've wasted our time,but since I've come this far and these are the only speakers I have at the moment is there a way to use all my speakers or should I just run them as they are.And just one last quick question if I may,when I do get another set of speakers do they have to be self powered?Thanks again JA,Cheers.

The Audiophile only outputs at line level, so if you don't buy self-powered speakers, you'll need an amplifier. You can't connect passive speakers directly to the 192.
