I've downloaded the driver for my Firewire solo, followed the on screen instructions and the unit is still not working. I do get an icon in the system tray and in the control panel, but those only work about 5% of the time. I have also tried re-installing the software and still no go. None of the audio software on my computer detects the driver or the unit itself.
Any ideas? Does anyone have any experience with a similar system?

Hello there, i had the same experience with FW Solo, word by word. But!
Tonight I read this - http://forums.m-audio.com/showpost.php?p=14858&postcount=2 - and tried the method described.
So, I just tried to run the Device Enabler for the Nth time - it just freezed for minute or so, with practically no results telling it's all ok, as usual. Then I uninstalled drivers, and installed them again (i mean by running FW_V64_Public_Beta_5.10.00.5055v2.exe - the same package as was used previously). After it was complete, I decided not to reboot (maybe I should...). Then I checked tray icon - it didn't respond in any way, as usual. Then I went to Device Manager (Control panel => System => Device Manager) and unsurprisingly found the same situation as earlier - couple of M-audio devices without drivers installed. But!
I chose to "upgrade drivers" on them, with manual search option. Gave path - C:\Program files (x86)\M-Audio\Firewire Family (it's kinda ridiculous to see 64-bit drivers being installed as x86 package) - and proceeded. System quickly found them - and I swear that on previous, all-identical install it could not find any there! Of course, next moment control panel and system tray worked alright, and the Solo itself just as well.
Sounds pretty hoodoo. Maybe you won't need to do all the steps, maybe it won't help you at all, but give it a try.
Also I recalled one detail, and though I still think it wasn't the reason for resurrection, maybe it actually was: I changed the "use PnP OS" setting in BIOS. But Solo worked ok on 32-bit Vista without it.
