Hi,

I have an Audiophile 2496 working on my Dell Precision 650 workstation, but now I have a need to use the integrated card for voice recognition software.

Enabling the card for recording in Device Manager or thru Control Panel doesn't work. I can't get any sound into my system through the mic inputs, front or rear.

Suggestions appreciated.

If the 24/96 is set as the default Windows recording device, then your input source needs to be connected to the 24/96.

Thnx for the reply.

The 24/96 doesn't have a mic input of course.

I have tried setting the integrated card SoundMAX Digital Audio as the default Voice recording device, since it has some capabilities in this capacity. No go.
I'm thinking that something related to the installation of the 24/96 changed setting/s, but I can't get the computer's mic inputs to work again.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Windows may not be looking at the voice recording settngs. Try changing the record device under audio.

To use the inputs on the 24/94 for a microphone, you would need some kind of a preamp or mixer.

Paul, I have that set too.

I have installed software (Acid) which I directed to that input, just as a test, and it sees nothing but noise.
If all is working as I want, should the mic signal show in the M-Audio Delta Control Panel?

The mic will not show in the Delta control panel. If your mic is connected to the mic input of the comptuer you need to select your computers internal soundcard. The 24/96 will not detect an input signal that is not directly connected to the input of the 24/96.

Understood.

The 24/96 will not detect an input signal that is not directly connected to the input of the 24/96.

To be more specific on this point, can I route the comp's mic input (assuming I get it to work!) through the 24/96 (like I can route other sound sources on the comp -Winamp, etc.) through the Delta mixer?

If your mic is connected to the mic input of the comptuer you need to select your computers internal soundcard.

That's what I am trying to achieve here. I don't know why I can't get it to work.

There is no practical way to do that.

What other options to you have for your Windows default recording device? Perhaps the wrong one is selected.

Paul,

Thanks for your efforts.
I have temporarily given up on this approach, and will try a new USB mic to avoid using the integrated card, and reinstate my 24/96 as it should be in the perfect world!
