The title may be a bit confused because I'm not sure if I have the terminology correct. I am considering buying the 1010lt.

I have a mixer with multiple inputs that I will be mixing a podcast through. I want to be able to play multiple audio files on my computer simultaneously, but have them output over different channels on the 1010lt. Is this possible?

For instance, can I have channels 1 and 2 be the output for iTunes, 3 and 4 be the output for VLC and channel 5 be the output for Skype? That way I can adjust the level of the caller or lower a music bed discretely.

If so, where is this selection made? Do the individual programs have to be aware of situations where the sound card may have multiple outs - requiring more advanced programs like Pro Tools, Audition or Audacity?

Thanks.

Aside from the programs abilities, the answer is yes. I'm not sure about Skype or the VLC player, but the important part is if those programs can be set to output on those certain channels. By default almost everything will default to playing out of 1/2.

When you go into the Control Panel of the 1010LT, the only thing that would need to change is the routing for H/W OUT1/2. It starts set on Monitor Mixer, which means that everything that plays through that mixer will out put on the literal 1 and 2 outputs. So if you set it to WavOut 1/2, then only what is being sent out 1/2 (via the software) will play out of the hardware outputs 1 and 2 on the breakout cable. So if Skype can be sent to 5, VLC sent to 3and 4, itunes should automatically be sent to 1 and 2. This device can do it, its more whther or not the software can. I hope this long-winded bit helps out, cheers.

Thanks TechGique- that's great. Now I just have to find out about the programs (or write my own).

Does anybody have any experience with Skype, iTunes, VLC, Windows Media player, Winamp or any other media player and their ability to select their output to route to WavOut 3/4 or otherwise? If I find out anything, I'll post it back here for reference.

Edit: Quick research and looking at the Skype settings seems to show it can be routed to different outputs if they are listed in the Windows sound configuration panel - so Skype would seem to be a yes.

Also, Winamp would seem to be a yes.
