Hey there - I'm usually pretty good about this kind of thing but I'm on a new system here and its got me stymied!

Im running a fairly robust (IMO) setup which is as follows:

system config:

os - windows xp sp2
cpu: kentsfield quad core 2.4 gig q6600
ram: 4 gigs
hd: 600 seagate
vid: ati radeon 3870
mobo: dfi lan party icfx3200 t2r/g
soundcard: m-audio 2496 delta
peripherals: focusrite liquid mix - running off of mobos 1394 port
seq: cubase 4

And im finding that while working in Cubase I get massive ASIO spikes while running a fairly modest project (read that as about 20 tracks of audio, there were some arturia vsts and a few other bits running that I rendered in an effort to save cpu space). when not playing, the asio meter seems to flutter +/- %10 around the 40 percent mark

The asio spikes seem to come at random, but also seem to be encouraged by simply leaving the project for a while open on the screen and then coming back to it, OR by skipping the track marker around in the track while playing.....sonically the compy chucks out a chewed downsampling tone that seems like a mulch of random digital noise

This is driving me nuts - pls help if you can!

quick notes: the 2496 is on its own irq (21) and that I've even tried bumpings its pci latency up to no avail. the sample rate is 44.1 and im using a buffer of 512 - if i push that much higher i think ill start running into probs with the liquid mix but not sure.

im running a few different group channels, some into each other, with a bit of sidechaining - dont know if this would chew the cpu but as ive got a quad core and lots of pretty high end bits i certainly dont anticpate this would be the case

i only have one other pci card installed and thats my radeon which is set to low setttings in the graphics dept. if for some reason its hogging the pci bus i have no problem downgrading to a lower card, i only grabbed this as it was on sale.

certainly theres NO excuse for me having this problem - i was running a project about 5 times heavier on an old 2 gig pentium 4 with an audigy 1 card, and it was flawless.

Have you tried disabling devices not essential for recording such as your built-in audio card, Ethernet, and Wireless controllers? If you have a PCI video card that's taking up the bandwidth of your PCI bus, do you have an AGP video card you can try using instead?
