I plugged my new Nova (sure it works) microphone into my Delta 1010LT (again, sure it works). The Nova is connected to the first XLR input. I know very little about mics, such as line level and preamps. I just want to use this mic to record some spoken word pieces on my PC. I know that the audio software I am using (Audacity) is working, and is recording other audio just fine from RCA inputs 3/4 from the Delta. But when I speak into the Nova microphone, I hear no audio and see no indication of a signal.
From my reading through both the Delta manual and the Nova manual I gather this: The Delta jumpers default to a microphone line level that the manual states is "for a microphone line level compatible with low impedance dynamic microphones (those that do not require phantom power, such as condenser mics)" but the Nova DOES require +48v phantom power. So I need to switch the jumpers to an operating line level.
Page 8 of the Delta manual (http://www.m-audio.com/images/global/manuals/Delta1010LT-Manual.pdf) shows a diagram. Should my jumpers should be set to position 2 or 2a? Phrases like "signal is too hot" worry me that I may damage something in my mixer or monitors.
Any help is appreciated.
