This is what I'm using:

asus p4p800 deluxe MB
2.6 GHZ pentium 4
120 GB SATA Maxter HD with XP SP2 installed
300 GB " " " for storage
4 GB Kingston RAM installed
M-Audio 1010LT
Adobe Audition 3

The problem is i'm trying to record 8 simultaneous tracks but during recording I get short spuratic glitches. Also I get poor performance when using effects/plug-ins even when i freeze the tracks. Its just not performing up to my standards. All my drivers including chipset and bios are updated. Ive done like 1000 hours of research on this with no help. I cant get my card installed in an IRQ less than 10. Ive done all the tricks like switching the card to different PCI slots and also disabling componants sitting on the important IRQ busses. Though it does say that it is not sharing the IRQ (no Conflicts). CPU usage does not really peak. Ive followed all the guides on optimizing my machine specifically for a DAW. My graphics card is NOT powerful. Im running a 400 watt power supply. Buffer is set with plenty of latency. Ive even tried recording at 24 bit/44KHZ but still farts. I've tried everything I could. I've read that old VIA firewire chipsets suck for recording but im not using firewire.

Ive run out of ideas and patience. Please help

Do the problems only start when recording 8 tracks? What about 6 tracks? Or even 4? Are you recording to the internal HD or Have you disabled your built-in audio, modem, Ethernet and Wireless controllers? Have you also disabled unused com and lpt ports?

I had similar problems, turning off Plug and Play in the BIOS and moving the card to different slots eventually made things better. It may require a reinstall of Windows though, otherwise Windows will still be running with the plug and play stuff. You can tell by checking if it says "standard PC" or "ACPI PC" in device manager
