View Full Version : MIDI/audio latency on 1010LT

Hi everyone,
I lost my MIDI breakout dongle for the 1010LT, so I've been controlling a sequencer with a controller/MIDI to PC/USB connection. I have a couple questions.
1) Would replacing the interface be worth it in terms of latency? Any other advantages?
2) Does cable length affect latency? I ask because in my current setup I've got a 15ft MIDI cable from controller to PC.
Can you give an estimate of how much MIDI latency I could cut off if I bought the MIDI interface? Also, does anyone have one they're not using that they want to ship to me? :P
Driver version 5.10.0.5069
Running: XP pro, FL studio xxl v8
Mobo: NF7-s v2.0, 1.8GHz AMD, 1gbRAM
Thank you!
There should be no latency difference between the 1010lt's MIDI cable and a USB MIDI connection. You can run into problems if your MIDI cables are too long; you may start getting dropped data. I wouldn't recommend running MIDI cables much farther, maybe up to 20ft max.
Send me a private message with your name and address and I can send you a replacement breakout cable.

Aw thanks for the offer, you're awesome, but I just ordered one for $20!!
I have another related question then: I just got a synth (Alesis Ion) and was trying to use it as a MIDI controller. It wasn't working, it was dropping most of the key presses and I was getting random start/stop/pitchbend/reset/aftertouch messages coming out of random channels just upon a note press. I thought the synth was bad, but when I controlled another keyboard with it, the note messages came through perfectly. So it MUST be a problem with the MIDI-to-USB driver/cable, right? The Alesis guy said it's not possible, but it must be. Anyway I'll find out when I get the breakout cable.
Thanks!
Which MIDI>USB device do you have? Is it a Midisport Uno? If so, it may be defective, see this thread: http://forums.m-audio.com/announcement.php?f=10

It's a Voyetra/ Turtle Beach
It definitely sounds like an issue with the USB>MIDI adapter. You may contact their tech support in the mean time.

Techsupport sez:
It is possible that if the Alesis controller sends certain MIDI messages that it may not work through the USB MIDI Cable.
Please make sure your Alesis controller is set to transmit only on MIDI Channel 1. The USB MIDI Cable is not a multichannel MIDI I/O. It has 16 MIDI track channels, but these transmit/receive only on MIDI Channel 1. OK, MIDI is a little confusing, but the bottom line is to only transmit/receive no more than 16 MIDI tracks on MIDI Channel 1.
Does the Alesis controller have a General MIDI mode? You can try that to see if that works with the USB MIDI Cable.
Thank you,

I got the midi breakout today and when I connected it to my Ion, it worked just fine. So let it be known that the Alesis Ion is not compatible with Turtle Beach MIDI-to-USB cables
