View Full Version : How can I output s/pdif for playback? (Delta 66 going to a receiver using pro tools)

Ok, so I have some inputs (probably all configured wrong, that's an entire different thread) I'm able to record four tracks into pro tools.
Now, I want to play them back.
My recording pc is an htpc in the livingroom/studio hooked up to a DTS receiver and speakers.
Of course I can use one of the outputs on the breakout box and use adapters to hook it up to the reciever.
But I'd like to use spdif out on the delta 66 to output to my receiver.

So, I connect the spdif-
receiver shows input signal
go to control panel and test the output and it works.
Go to The maduio control panel and make sure all settings are outputting on the spdif and volumes are turned up.
Go to Pro tools where i have tracks 1,2,3,4 all recording in mono one from each input of the breakout box.
Line 5 and 6 are supposed to be the left and right of the s/pdif.
So I map output in pro tools to those lines.
Now, I press playback
protools is playing
Maudio control panel shows volume bouncing on the spdif output
But the stereo receiver is not playing anything.

Any help would be appreciated as we have practice tomorrow and i would really like to be able to record in high quality :)

Your setup sounds correct; do you have to enable anything to the receiver to select or monitor the S/PDIF input? What OS and driver are you running? What is the output source for the S/PDIF output set to in the Delta Control Panel? Is the S/PDIF output mode setup for consumer or professional?

The receiver is showing that it's pickign up a coaxial signal.
Os: Vista
Driver: Vista beta (only driver that will work for me, is the final any better???)
Output source: Sw Return, but also shows a bouncing green signal if I choose mixer and turn the volume up.
SPDIF output mode: Consumer (what does professional do anyway?)

[Edit: Fixed]
I read about people having problems with 44.1 and in the control panel i tested 44.1 output on my card and heard nothing.
So I changed the maduio panel to 48khz.
(it's still showing locked)
Then I went to the control panel and set spdif-delta-66 to the default output.
Works fine now! In fact EVERYTHING on my machine is outputting thru the spdif and it sounds excellent.
In protools I just have to record-arm and i can hear my drums passing through to the speakers. Sounds WAAAY better than a guitar amp.

Oh, and both sw rtn and mixer work, but sw rtn sounds better. Not sure why i would ever use mixer?
Also if anyone wants to take a stab at some of my questions still (from before the edit, that would still help me)
