I fixed it late last night... here is the fix. The EVGA nForce 730i mobo has Six S-ATA II connectors from Intel south bridge and two S-ATA II connectors from JMicron’s JMB363 controller. My 1 TB RAID array was on the first pair of S-ATA connectors from the Intel Controller. My Boot/OS drive was on one of the ports in the second pair of S-ATA connectors from the Intel Controller, while my Optical drive which could not play CDs correctly was on the JMicron’s JMB363 controller.
I removed the optical drive from the JMicron’s JMB363 controller, and placed it on the second channel of the the Intel controller and everything is fine now. It might also be worth mentioning that when the optical drive was on the JMicron’s JMB363 controller, boot times were VERY long, over 2 minutes. Now the system boot times are closer to 30 seconds!!! A great unforseen benefit of moving off the JMicron’s JMB363 controller. I also disabled this "no longer used" controller in BIOS. Hope this helps others with similar issues. Here is a visual of what I did...
