I just received a Delta 410 PCI card that I bought used. It arrived in an anti-static bag but a loose chip fell out of the bag when I removed the card. It is an 8 prong chip that appears to belong in the socket labeled U2. There is a red dot on one corner of the chip. Can anyone tell me how to orient the chip in the socket? Should the red dot be closest to the label U2? That would be my guess but I want to make sure it is right. Thank you.

I just checked a couple Delta 410's that we have but none have a red dot; however, it appears that on both cards, the writing on that little chip should be upright when holding the PCI card with the silver blade at the top, and that chip at the bottom. I also noticed a small half circle notch/indent on the to of that chip. On both cards, that notch was pointing towards the bottom of the PCI card (the part that plugs into the motherboard). Does that make sense?

Yes, I see the notch and it is on the same end as the red dot. So I will insert it with that end down towards the motherboard. Out of curiosity, what is that chip for and is there a reason it was made removable? Thanks for your quick reply.

It's an EPROM chip, it holds the firmware. I guess it was made removable in case it ever needed to be replaced.
