View Full Version : Input Faders Have No Effect - 1010lt

I have 2x 1010lts with latest drivers (5.10.0.5069). The problem i have is that the input faders on the software mixer don't seem to adjust the input signal on the corresponding channel.
i.e, If I'm using channel 1 for a mic input and it's clipping, I try to reduce the input via channel 1's fader but the PPM's still showing it clipping. It does reduce the master PPM, but not the channel 1 PPM.
Is this intended? I'd have thought that ch1's ppm should show the decrease in signal too?
It's also apparent in my DAW software (Cubase Studio4)
I try to attenuate Ch1 via the 1010's software mixer but it has no effect on the signal at all.
Those faders do not attenuate the input signal; the only way to adjust the input signal level on the 1010lt is with the variable signal level controls (+4, con, -10) or the jumpers on the PCI card for inputs 1/2. The faders on the monitor mixer control output levels; the faders for the inputs are used to adjust the direct monitoring level of those inputs.

I have the same problem, my 1/2 inputs are to hot and I just can't avoid clipping, even if I use the +4db option, or even if I move the hidden, or invisible input sliders on the control pannel (everybody think that they are missing but thay are there! ...just invisible. Click, for example, on the middle of the slider while you are recording something and you will see that your master volume will decrease or increase). But as Austin said, this does not solve the saturated sound problem. Is there any way to use the 1/2 inputs to record drums or any high volume instrument? or they are only ment to record voices or low volume instruments?
What if I change the jumpers to line level? would I still be able record a drum without an external preamp?
Nice find on the invisible input faders!
Have you tried the other jumper settings? You could also try using an inline pad to attenuate the signal.

Yes it seems these inputs are useless at mic level, even a singer singing into an SM58 was totally clipped when I tried. I don't think M-Audio is going to respond, seems like a problem with no fix unless they can put an actual input level control on the control panel, which they probably would have if it was possible. Seems like line level is the only way to go, which makes the advertised "mic preamps" kind of a misnomer if they're not usable. Engineering screwup it seems.
