Okay, I'm going to describe in detail my setup and specific problem to make sure everyone has enough info to troubleshoot my hangup. Sorry in advance if I miss anything.

I have an M-Audio AudioBuddy mic pre-amp, an M-Audio Audiophile 192, a brand new pc running core 2 quad, 4gb ram, 500 gb harddrive, vista 64 premium, and a Behringer miniamp 800 for my headphones.

This is the set up: I have two MXL condenser microphones in xlr inputs of the audiobuddy. The 1/4" outputs of the audiobuddy lines 1 & 2 are running into the 1/4" inputs (L&R) of the audiophile. The monitor outputs, both left and right and running into L & R inputs on the Behringer headphone amplifier.

Here is the problem: Both microphones are reading in left side of my studio headphones no matter what the settings or configuration.

Here is what I've attempted: I've bypassed the Cubase software and used only the M-Audio delta control panel to select 1/4" ins and monitor direct from 1/4" outs. I've checked all of the pans (including the behringer device knobs) to ensure the audio isn't being steered into the left channels. The monitor onscreen displays left and right input activity. ALSO, both microphones definitely register in the left ear. IE: you can hear if a pan is changed, if the volume is increased or decreased.

Do I require stereo 1/4" cables from the audiobuddy to the audiophile, and from the audiophile into the behringer miniamp? Am I required to use Balance 1/4" cables?

I received this message from M-Audio support:
"The outputs on the Audiophile 192 are mono; you need to connect to both the left and right outputs in order to hear signal on both sides."

From my setup you can see that I do have both outputs in use to L & R pre-amp box. So what may be the actual problem?

I would definitely suggest connecting with 1/4" TRS balanced cables; you will need 4 cables; 2 from the Audio Buddy to the 192, and 2 from the 192 to the miniamp.

Double check the connections from the 192; make sure you are connected to the Mon R output and not the Main R output; this could explain why you are only getting the left channel. The Main Out only monitors playback from the computer; while the Mon outputs can monitor input and playback.

Also, try plugging your headphones directly into the 192's Monitor Outputs (Mon L and Mon R); if you are not getting signal on the right output, how are the inputs panned in the Delta Control Panel? Can you post a screen shot of the monitor mixer?

Hey, I'm away for the weekend. I'll provide screenshots when I get home Monday.

I can say that I am for sure plugged into the monitor left and rights. Also the pans have been set centered, all right, all left, through the delta audio control in my attempting to resolve the issue. All that adjusting just alters the sound in left side of the headphones.

I can say that I also tried plugging in my headphones directly to the Right Output. I can't recall if there was no sound or if it was still left only, but still no dice.

Any other thoughts until I can provide more info? Thanks for the cable recommendation, as a sidenote, is that just for overall sound quality or might that resolve the channel orientation problem i'm experiencing?

I can say that I also tried plugging in my headphones directly to the Right Output. I can't recall if there was no sound or if it was still left only, but still no dice.

This is important to know. If you plug into the Right Monitor output, you should still only hear it on the left side of the headphones (because you're plugging stereo headphones into a mono output); however, this lets you know that the 192 is working properly.
