Has anyone else had this problem? I've submitted an "incident" with Support, but haven't received any answer yet.

I have been using this card without any issues, previously. Recently, I wiped it clean and reinstalled WinXP Pro, then immediately installed SP2, then SP3. Then I started installing device drivers. When I tried to install the Delta 44 driver (5.10.00.5069v3), it all looked fine; it had me reboot. When I rebooted, the OS says, "New Hardware Found", but it always just says "Multimedia Audio Controller"...never M-Audio Delta 44, like it used to. I select "No" for lookup driver via Internet, then select radio button to "Install the software automatically". It searches for a while, then comes back with "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software". I even tried "Install from a list or specific location" and choosing the M-Audio directory, but got the same results.

I have tried putting the card in each of the PCI slots, with no luck. I have also removed any other PCI cards in the computer, to eliminate any conflicts...no luck. It always just says "Multimedia Audio Controller" and can't ever find the driver. M-Audio Control Panel says "-- Select PCI Card --" on the right hand column, all tabs are blank, and under the About section it says "N/A" for the driver...

The motherboard is an Asus P4P800...I've been using this motherboard for several years with the Delta 44, with no problems, until now.

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide!

Was the Delta 44 in the computer before you installed the drivers? Do you have any virus protection software running? These things can cause problems and may result in the device not being recognized properly. Remove the PCI card, uninstall the drivers, temporarily disable any virus protection software, install the drivers, then shut down and install the PCI card.

If it is still recognized as "Multimedia Audio Controller"; the card could be the problem. Try installing it in a different computer.

Yes, the card was already in the PC when I installed the drivers. I will try your suggestions. I also have a second desktop with PCI slots in it, so I'll try that suggestion as well.

Thanks!

OK, I tried the card in my other desktop, with the exact same results:

1. Loaded the latest driver without the card in the PC.
2. Powered off and installed PCI card.
3. Booted up to XP SP3 saying, new "Multimedia Audio Controller" found.
4. Chose "No" to not connect to "Windows Update"
5. Selected "Install Software Automatically".

Same results, "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software."

Does this mean my card is dead? What options do I have at this point?

It sounds like something in the card is not working properly; when and where did you purchase the Delta 44?

Hmm.. I think I ordered it from Zzounds or Sweetwater, but it was like 5+ years ago, so I'm guessing I can't do anything in the way of warranty.. :(

mine is now working. uninstall the drivers, unplug the little box that comes out from the computer card and try installing again. once installed connect the box again while computer is powered down. i think that's what did it with mine.

leave the soundcard out of the computer.

install drivers.

turn off computer.

put soundcard in without the interface box connected.

turn on computer.

windows says it has found new hardware

say to install drivers automatically
should be installed

turn off, connect the box, turn on, change settings for soundcard.

Try going into BIOS settings and disabling on-board sound.

I disabled onboard sound too. :(. Iīm going to kill me :banghead:. I tried on another pc (XP SP2) and i got the same result. "MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER". What can i do if i did everything? Sell or throw my Delta an buy another soundcard? Fast track pro is better than delta 44 (latency, noise)?

Thanks for your answers.

If multiple computers are recognizing the card as Multimedia Audio Controller, the problem could be with the Delta card itself. You should contact the store where you purchased it for repair information.
