A few days ago I went out to my local best buy to pick up a microphone for recording vocals. After bieng told by the sales associate there that your product was a good quality product I spent the 100 bucks and got it.

First when I went to install it I couldnt cause I was running (and I say "was") windows xp sp3. So I then took a 20 minute trip to my ex's house to get online to check for updates(No I have no internet at this time). Found the 1.6 whatever file...Brought that home...went to install that and got the message "sorry no updater present" or something to that effect. So I preceded to uninstall sp3. Which i hated to do but oh well. Got Session installed fine....tried to update it to the 1.6 version and still got the "no updater" message. So after a few choice words at my pc I thought oh well I still have the program all set and tried it out... When It asked me for audio hardware i tried asio( I have no idea whats what here...) That didnt work...wouldnt let me i got some error message there... Then I saw the creative option...cool...I use the creative xi fi sound card...tried that and all the sound was fuzzy and garggled. Got mad...close Session and went to just listen to some tunes...but omg...no sound at all....checked my little sound option in the corner of the pc there just to find out that session had taken over my sound options alltogether and my creative was nowhere to be found...still all options were NOT muted and at full....so why no sound?
After a few more choice words I found out that when plugging in my microphone that for some unknown reason I lost all sound....who knew??

But to end it all here...Session sound is messed up...creative drivers are messed up...microphone kills all my sound....and session has taken over my soundcard drivers...oh and i cant update session to see if the 1.6 version has any fixes cause of the "no updater" message...so basically im stuck doing nothing in the middle of working on a new project cause I bought your product

Any ideas??

Right now my pc is this..
Windows xp
2.8 dual core processor...
4g ram
creative soundblaster xi fi soundcard
nvidea g-force 6800 video card

What version of Session do you currently have installed? Did you buy the Session Music Producer? That device is a microphone and sound card in one. Whenever you connect a new sound card/audio interface, Windows usually assigns it as the default playback device. You need to connect your headphones to the Producer USB; or see this FAQ (http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=20c63db774216245f9fa72fd5c9cbec8) if you want to connect speakers to the Producer USB.

If you open the M-Audio Producer USB Control Panel, does it recognize the device as "connected"? What happens when you choose the M-Audio USB ASIO driver in Session?

We have received reports from users not being able to update to 1.6 because no previous version was found. Send me a private message with your name and address and I can send you a 1.6 installation disc.

Are you trying to read the Session manual from the program? Or from Windows? What program is opening the manual?

ok read it and let me see if i got this right....I have to have my mic...thats hooked to the pc as is....and have my speakers hooked to the center of the mic?? That seems a bit... well for lack of a better word...retarded.Am i suppose to be entwined by wires when trying to do vocal recording...lol. Not to mention wait a week to get a dvd copy of an upgrade ive already installed..lol...why cant make the download work the same as the dvd?? Whats the difference...lol
I probably would have been better just getting a normal mic...plugging it into my mic input on my soundcard and using a program like sonar or cubase to do the recording instead of having to use a second soundcard thats probably 10 times worse than my soundblaster xi fi...lol.
Oh well...i can look at it this way....only took me 100 bucks to find out never to use your companies products again....lol.

The Producer USB was not the right recommendation for your needs; I would recommend returning it. The Producer USB is designed to be an all in one device and it sounds like you need something more flexibile. If you are looking at recording with applications such as Cubase, Sonar, or Pro Tools M-Powered; you would benefit from using a more versatile USB or FireWire interface (http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.family&ID=recording) with a dedicated recording mic (http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.family&ID=microphones). If you have any other questions, let me know.
