Hello again,
During the unstable period of installing the 2496 in my Mac, MS Office tried to update itself to SP1. It crashed hard and after that, would not launch without a "database error detected" message.
After running now for several days with audio coming out of the Delta card, I decided to try and fix Office. It required dumping and reloading all Office 2008 applications and preferences including the ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/ * before it would successfully install and update itself to what they call SP1 (service pack 1). If I cared about the email's and address book within Entourage, this would be a disaster. As it now stands, it is only mildly irritating.
During the update however, the sound card reverted to an output noise that is not the system alert. It is a crackly, white noise that sounds awful.
If I go back into System Settings>Sound>Output, and choose the headphones (internal mobo sound card), then the system alerts are normal again.
So now, I have Office working, but not the sound card. I'm guessing that something that both MS and M-Audio depend on, got stepped on by MS, but what? And why doesn't if effect the output to the Apple sound card?
