View Full Version : Audiophile 2496 install problem: unsigned drivers but no confirmation prompts

I am trying to install an Audiophile 2496 (see system specs in signature), but when I attempt to install the driver, I get the following message:

"We were unable to install the M-Audio Delta on your computer. The user was unwilling to install an unsigned driver on the system."

This happens right at the beginning of the install process, before I'm given any chance to accept or deny the installation of any unsigned drivers.

I went to My Computer --> Properties --> Hardware --> Driver Signing, and it is set to "Warn". Even if I change the setting to "Ignore", I still get the same error message.

I installed this Audiophile sound card working on this system about six months ago, with no problems. Since then, I've reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled my operating system, but I'm not sure what could be different between my system then and my system now.

Can anybody help me out? Thanks in advance.

Do you have any virus protection/spyware/firewall software running that could be interfering?

No, this is a perfectly clean install from a backup image. The only things that have been installed are Windows 2000 and SP4.

What driver version are you trying to install?

When you set Driver Signing to ignore, is that selection retained on restart?

Do you have any other devices with unsigned drivers you can try installing?

1. I am installing Delta_WDM_5.10.0.5051.exe (from http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers&f=509).

2. Yes, the selection is retained on restart.

3. I believe my integrated sound card has unsigned drivers. I will try reinstalling those tomorrow, and see what happens.

Ok, I installed the drivers for my integrated sound card. With Driver Signing set to "Warn", I get a "Digital Signature Not Found" prompt during the installation (similar to the one found at http://imgcash3.imageshack.us/Himg393/scaled.php?server=393&filename=13digitalsignatureof5.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=480):

"The Microsoft digital signature affirms that software has been tested with Windows and that the software has not been altered since it was tested. The software you are about to install does not contain a Microsoft digital signature."

After clicking "Ok", the installation completes successfully.

Immediately after the installation of the integrated sound card drivers, I reattempt the installation of the Audiophile 2496 drivers, and I get the same "User was unwilling to install an unsigned driver on this system" error.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Are you logged in as the user "Administrator", or as a user with Administrator privileges? If you're not logged in as Administrator, try that.

I have e-mailed you a zip folder with the Delta driver files so you can try a manual installation.

Hi All:

I had this same problem when I moved my 2496 to my trusty Windows 2000 SP4 box for recording. My workaround was to install the orginal driver that came with the 2496 (I bought it in 2005) and then the current driver from m-audio installed and upgraded nicely.

Hi Willy,

Thanks for the suggestion. In my case, I managed to solve the problem by doing a manual install using the drivers that JA sent me.

I'm having the same issue since I tried to upgrade the drivers for my 2496 (WinXP SP3)

Could you email me the ZIP file please.

Thanks
Duncan

Scrap that. I just set driver signing to "ignore" and it installed fine. (control panel > system > hardware > driver signing)

Love the new control panel.

Similiar problem here with Win2ksp4. I get the message. Have tried to change the driver signing settings but to no avail, am logged in as Administrator, would like to get drivers for my card. Thanks!

Here is a zip file containing the driver files. Extract these files to a new folder on your desktop, install the card, and direct the wizard to this folder to install the drivers.
