Hi,
I'm having trouble with my audiophile 2496. I'm running vista ultimate 32-bit, and I don't have the service pack installed. The driver for this is meant to work fine, and it does for the most part, but then after several hours the sound will cut out and I have to restart the computer to get it back. I've tried to figure out what's causing it, and ways of replicating it, and I've been unsuccessful so far. It seems like the sound card "gets stuck" sometimes trying to play something. When i leave the computer and come back and try to play an mp3, it wont work, same with videos. Or sometimes if I leave a playlist going, the sound will cut out in between tracks before the playlist is finished. It never cuts out during playback, although it occasionally makes a strange glitch sound as if it were choking. Normally I'd blame that on low ram, or an exhausted cpu, but I have plenty of headroom on this computer.
When the sound has cut out, I've noticed it's not possible to change the sample rate in the m-audio control panel. But I can change the buffer size. When the sound card is in use you can't change the sample rate either, so the computer seems to think the sound card is still in use when the sound cuts out. I can't narrow it down to software though, because it happens to itunes, windows media player classic, ableton, and even my browsers when watching youtube etc.
I followed the installation procedure precisely, I only installed the card after installing the drivers first, etc. I've tried with both the drivers on the cd and the latest drivers. I followed the procedure for upgrading/changing drivers correctly too. I've been browsing the forums for a while, and searching elsewhere and I haven't found anything helpful so far.
This is kind of disappointing, I installed vista 32-bit on this new computer instead of 64-bit just for the driver support, and it still doesn't work! I'd appreciate any help or suggestions (perhaps there's a way to restart asio without restarting the computer?).
Here are my specs if you need them:
Windows Vista Ultimate, 32-bit
Asus z7s mobo
2xIntel Xeon Quad-Core 5405 2.0Ghz
4GB fb-dimm ram
2x750GB samsung hdd
Nvidia 8800GS
Thanks!
