I've used the mobilepre interface with XP for the past 3 years perfectly. However, I've had crazy difficulty trying to get my full sound without distortion since i've upgraded to Windows 7. I have tried 4 different drivers all with no installation problems but with sound issues.
I've tried the drivers for Windows 7 64bit from m-audio's website (6.0.1.5.10.0.5131), then the following drivers 5.10.0.5128 (I figured maybe Vista drivers may work), 5.10.0.3516(these worked fine in XP). Using compatability mode, everything installed fine. But with all of those different drivers I had the same issue: there is heavy distortion heard through monitors and headphones on certain low and high notes. I've used commercial CD's and the 'test' sound on playback properties from the volume notification area. You can hear the distortion quite clearly compared to the laptop speakers which are way louder than the monitors plugged into the mobilepre. (That's just backwards!) It seems I need to turn volume down to 50% and leave output volume at 0db to lose most of distortion or turn output volume to -12db and bring volume up at 100% to lose most of the distortion. But after doing that, the volume levels are drastically lower than they used to be with xp ). Even at 100% volume, with the crazy distortion the volume level is like a 1/4 of the loudness with XP.
Then I read that Windows 7 had plug-and-play drivers that worked with this audio interface. I tried them. Yes, they do get you your full range back on your monitors. But that distortion is still there, plus there's issues with the control panel such as buffer settings, etc.
I've already ruled out the possibility of my monitors (KRK 5's) being the problem, because I pluged the mobilepre back in my old laptop (which is about to die any day now) and they worked just fine.
PLEASE HELP! I AM TRYING TO GET BACK INTO CREATING MUSIC ON MY NEW LAPTOP!!!!
Thanks.
