    Default low volume keystation 61es

I have recently bought a keystation 61es. I am using Garageband with a MacBook Pro. The keyboard volume is ramped up full and I can barely hear it above the playback tracks - the rest of the keyboard functions are working fine. I have also been troubled with sudden volume changes. Have I bought a faulty machine, or is there a cure?

If you click the keys on the on-screen keyboard, is the volume much louder?

What sudden volume changes are you talking about?

To check that your keyboard is working right you should use a software like MIDI-OX and check all the midi messages you receive when press keys, buttons and sliders on the keystation. Maybe your problems are from a bad configuration of the music software you are using.

MIDI-OX is Windows only. On Mac you could use MIDI Monitor to see what velocity values are registered.

    Hi Jared,
Yes, the on-screen keyboard is considerably louder. I am using Mac OS X Snow Leopard which should be compatible with the keyboard.
There are occasional, random dips in volume as I am laying down a track. Also sometimes you set the volume you want to record, go to record it and suddenly it isn't there .

If you test with MIDI Monitor, what velocity values are you getting? 127 is the highest.

When testing with MIDI Monitor, do you get random MIDI volume messages appearing without moving the volume slider on the keyboard.
