Default BX8a Crackling Sound / Blown Caps & Resistors / Loose Cone

So it looks like my BX8a's are just disintegrating in front of me. They started to sound weird and I did some searching and came up with the blown cap problem, and sure enough, mine are done. A resistor is also fried, possibly from the ooze coming out of the cap. In my other one the cone has broken away from the sealant causing massive rattle as well.

I tried to get phone support but couldn't even understand the guy, thanks for the USA tech support.... What are my options? I've had these for a long time and I'm sure they are out of warranty, but this is a bogus problem. Is my only option really to send in and pay who knows what to have this fixed?

You could order a replacement amplifier by emailing repairs@m-audio.com, part # 9005-41696-00

Would it be realistic to only replace the caps on this board to save $$$ ?

I've had my BX8a monitors for a couple years now. I don't do recording at all, just use these to play music in the background while I work at my computer. One of the monitors started sounding strange, like all the clarity was removed. No static or hissing or anything like that. In fact, if I have both monitors on and at the same volume, I can't even really tell that one of them is bad (very noticeable when testing them one at a time). Anyway, I opened the back panel of the bad one and it looks just like the OP's images (see my photos below).

Are these things dead? I was so surprised to find cap failure and replacement is a common maintenance thing with this model - especially since I've never had the monitor volume knob past 25%. Is there a minor repair that will get these working or should I put them in the garbage?

Try to Replace capacitors or contact service care.

    Hi aermotor,

What happen to the capacitor? It looks like all of the caps are blown up. Did it just happened all of a sudden?
    cheers
