Default Ubuntu - M-Audio Transit - How to control ?

    Hi folks.

My first post over here. I am wondering if also M-Audio developers are watching?

Even though not supported, the M-Audio Transit is working under
    latest Ubuntu Hardy.

Though, you need to follow a little How-To I wrote to get it going.

    http://www.diyaudio.co/wiki/index.ph...+MAudioTransit

However above delivers just the basic operation via the snd-usb-audio ALSA driver. You won't be able to set the parameters, such as In- and Output modes, latency etc. The great thing about Linux: No ASIO or similar
is required to get your data properly to the interface.

Of course, me and most probably more people within the growing Ubuntu/Linux community would like to control these.
Since there is no host application to do this, somebody needs to write one.
I am looking into it. Did anybdy accomplish to get a similar challenge solved?

How do I get the control codes for that card? What else would be needed?

Perhaps it would be also a nice idea to get the existing Host application
    working under WINE.
The basic driver would be working under Linux and the host to set the parameter under WINE. I tested this. I didn't manage to get the applications working. Perhaps a M-Audio develoer could look into it.

Anyhow: I'd really appreciate if somebody around here could refer me into the right direction.

    Cheers
    SC

    Awesome news, thanks soundcheck!

There is a small "cult" of us here who are passionate about Linux. Right now it's a tricky subject for us. A lot of our older Delta Series cards work very well on Linux systems but most of our newer interfaces need some work before they'll function fully.

If you take a peek at some of the other posts around here you'll see we still have a lot of work ahead of us with our Vista, -64-bit and SP3 drivers. That being said, with the news of Best Buy now selling fully supported boxed versions of Ubuntu there's an increased chance of putting some attention in that area.

I can't talk about what we may or may not be working on but I can say that we are aware of the Linux community and keeping our eye on the developments happening there.

Good to see that you guys scanning this forum.

As far as I interprete your answer, I need to figure out by myself, how to
set these - whatever - parameters.

Perhaps you can get me hint on one subject, because I no longer own a Windows system to check it out by myself:
If I want to run 24/96 over Toslink. Do I need to explicitely configure the card for it?

What a pity to get stuck at this point in time.

    THX anyhow.

Default One more vote for Linux driver support

I have an M-Audio Transit (USB) and I would be thrilled to see some sort of Linux driver support provided for this device!

Linux distributions, such as Ubuntu, are gaining in popularity more than ever, both because of their increased competitiveness and because of the rise of virtualisation. Additionally the audio subsystems that run on Linux distributions are becoming more advanced and competitive, and genuinely warrant serious consideration.

One of the main reasons that Linux is being adopted by so many different technology areas is that astute hardware manufacturers are getting behind this movement because they realise that this is where real innovation is happening in the industry; and innovation always means new markets and new opportunities.

I would commend the good people at M-Audio (Avid) to begin looking at their Open Source strategy and decide how it is that they can be part some of the most exciting innovation in the IT industry today!

PS. Please include the M-Audio Transit in your first batch of Linux drivers
