I've installed the latest drivers for Win XP SP2 and get the message "this device can not start properly (code10)". I've tried the older drivers with various USB connections, but still get the same message. After reading this forum, I thought it might be something with the firmware.

I also own a midisport 2x2, which never had such problems, and therefor I did buy a 8x8 for more midi I/O's, but I can't get the device starting to work.

This is a new feature from Microsoft. If you keep up with the fixes and patches from Microsoft, this is one of their recent blunders. It may have survaced with service pack 3 or another recent update. Windows Vista now has the same problem with many vendors driver installations. One notable is the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver.
Symptoms: The driver installs OK, but sports the dreaded "Device cannot start (code 10)", or very similar error when you view properties in Device Manager. They also messed the Help feature for many older software products to where it wouldn't run. Geniesoft Overture and MakeMusic Finale 2010 for example. Fortunately MS fixed that in the latest patch. JA, I apologize, but didn't get a mail from you. I'd be glad to know if you've already sent it.

I managed to obtain an old blue and green 8x8 midisport from a friend who never managed to get it working. Unfortunately when booting up in XP (SP3) I get the same code 10 error.
Do I need the firmware upgrade too? |

Hello!
I have used my 8x8s for years under Win98 and XP but always serial, because I have never gotten the USB drivers to work. Now trying USB with XP-SP3, I also have the problem described by others in the forum: unknown device, can't be started (Code 10), etc. I tried the older v.1010 and the newer v.4.3.00 USB drivers. Same results. I do want to run it USB now. If I install the serial driver for XP v.4.1.0.05, the 8x8 will work but windows won't boot unless the 8x8 is connected and turned on. I have checked everything I know in the windows Control Panel and BIOS, but, can't find a solution. I have read in the forum that 'JA' may be able to help with firmware chips and installation instructions. Please do help if you can. My PC: Intel P4 with 3 Ghz, 2 GB-RAM, Win XP-SP3, Cubase VST. Thank you, - kwe333 |
