hi, ok went out and bought a usb powered hub (logitech)

I think it *may* have a small improvement, but it is still nowhere *near* usable.

remember, I've just bought an external expresscard usb card, and now a usb powered hub... after buying the FTU, feels like putting good money after bad.

Anyway, I'll continue using the FTU with my old laptop... but considering that the old Audiophile works perfectly, it can't just be a power problem with the Dell.

I do appreciate your help, Paul, but as a computer programmer myself, and IMHO I think the drivers for these devices need to be better written.

A random pop with no activity on is likely some kind of timing relatedproblem. If it is indeed driver/irq/power related, our mouse/hard disks/other external usb devices would all be losing data every moment, every day.

just my 2 cents.

Hi all,

Just wanted to jump on here and say that I'd the same issue and was getting pissed off with it. Have fixed it now though.

I'm running XP SP3 and was experiencing the issue through Ableton Live.
Fast Track Ultra.

2 steps I took:
1. Changed the USB ports in the BIOS to be Fast (i.e. USB 2.0 only) instead of Compatible (USB 1.0 and USB 2.0).
2. Set the mode of the card to High Performance Mode in the M-audio Fast Track Ultra Control Panel and rebooted.

Issue still occurred after step 1 but it may have been part of the solution.
I believe the issue may have arisen because the driver was releasing the sound card back to the OS. This wouldn't be done in High Performance Mode.

Hope this helps anyone else who's come across this issue.
