On an even more depressing note, the fact that this problem affects both Mac and Windows users alike indicates that their initial diagnosis may have been premature and that it might be a firmware issue after all. Regardless, I think 8 months without even an ETA for a fix suggests that this issue is not a priority in any way for M Audio. Just strikes me as wholly unacceptable that they're still selling this unit as is. Professional quality design?????
Can anyone recommend a suitable, fully functional equivalent unit as it looks like I'm going to have to go back and get a refund on this one?

Hi guys,
I recently got a ProFire 610. I have been reading about the random record latency problem, so naturally I did some testing on my setup to confirm. I recorded one track from the metronome that comes with Reaper (that's the software I am using). Then I recorded five additional tracks from the first one, with the ProFire output connected to the input. Before recording each track, I closed and then re-opened the recording software. The result: although the 5 additional tracks were about 1.5 ms behind the original (I am guessing - due to the DA/AD loop latency), they were perfectly aligned with each other. So I could not re-create the problem you guys were seeing. I am running the test on a MBP with OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and the beta driver for ProFire 2626, which by the way seems to be working perfectly for the 610.

This is good news. I'm getting ready to sell my Profire 610 because I need SL compability, and don't want to deal with these latency issues. I work in audio for a living, and I bought this just to have PT compatibility at home.

It's been a nightmare from the get go.

^ Hmmmm sounds positive, has anyone else been using the beta driver for Snow Leopard and maybe with some other software Ableton or Logic? It would be great to know if the issue has been resolved with this new driver.

Thumbs up SoFired at 6:10(pm)

I bought the ProFire610 hoping for a sturdy interface with good mic pre's and the ability to record multiple tracks. When purchasing "PRO" equipment, I tend to assume the driver software/firmware will be nearly flawless and if not i would expect there to be an update that addresses the flaws. I cannot believe that a "professional" level interface with unfixed driver issues is even allowed to be on the shelf for sale!!! and WHY DO THE EMPLOYEES WHOM I TRUST AT MY LOCAL SHOP NOT EVEN KNOW OF THIS ISSUE?!?! Seriously there should be a recall on this piece guys. I own a number of M-Audio products so this in addition to issues with one other product really disappoints me and forces me to question M-Audio as my "go-to" hardware manufacturer. I am not even going to bother waiting any longer to return the ProFire610 after reading about how long its gone with no changes. My title says it all.the fire's bout to get smoked.
