Default Audiophile 2496 and choppy sound on CDplayer

After installing a new 2496, I get choppy sound from my CD player (ASUS CD S480).My DVD/CD Writer Combo works fine. All tunes played from library are fine. Even rippining a song to my library from the ASUS works fine. Just playing a CD is horrible. The new driver for the SP3 is installed. Digital CD player is checked.

Very perplexing!

IRQ conflict? Try a different slot for the 2496 perhaps.

Wow, I have not seen this problem in awhile.

I know we use to see this problem a lot in the dying years of Win98 and the early years of WinXP. Here was the fix.

Some CD-drives need to have the setting, " Enable Digital CD Audio," checked in their disk drive properties.

Goto the device manager select disk drives, right click on your CD Drive and choose properties, Then look for the " Enable Digital CD Audio, " check it and restart and you should be good to go.

If not, please reply to this thread and we'll see what else we can do!

Howdy Folks,

Thank you for the advice. Changing the slot did not affect the problem. I also had the "Enable Digital CD Audio" checked. Again, no change.

Thanks though...and I'm open to other suggestions!

Hey There RiveraMan,

It seems like such a simple problem, but it drives a guy nutty (nuttier in my case). I'll check out WInamp. Besides WMP, I've tried i-Tunes, and RealPlayer with no results. The ironic thing is that if, using the same CD drive, rip the CD tomy library., it plays fine there.

hmmm...

Have you checked for firmware updates for your CD drives? Does everything play fine with the previous driver?

I second JA's advice. I had this problem recently (although I'm running a Delta 66 & SP2) and it was definitely an IDE driver issue.

I've been looking for a the driver. Seems like ASUS doesn't support it...I'll look around some more.

You have an ASUS motherboard in the Presario? I would go to the HP site (who bought Compaq) to look for drivers. And to be clear, my issue was with the IDE driver (vs. SATA, etc.).
